Bulletin Board

This space is intended for the use of those wishing to make announcements related to earthbag building in disaster-prone regions. It is a way to network with others. If you have something to post here, just send it to me, the webmaster: kellyhartATgreenhomebuilding.com and say that it is for the Earthbag Structures Bulletin Board.

My name is Carmen Mauk, and I run a non-profit, Pisco Sin Fronteras, in Peru. We have been working here since 2007 when an 8.0 earthquake devastated the region. Thousands of families are still living in tents and unfortunately, the Peruvian government hasn't been forthcoming in supporting reconstruction efforts.

We are introducing earthbag building to this impoverished community and are looking for somebody who has experience in building earthbag structures from the ground up to come and lead the building of a small community center. We will begin construction in 3 weeks. Our original qualified builder must leave the country due to a family emergency.

We can provide room and board for a qualified person, if they can get themselves to Pisco. This is an amazing opportunity that will make a huge impact in the quality of people's lives here.

To find out more about our work, please check out www.piscosinfronteras.org.

We have also just produced a 10 minute video that does a great job of showing the scope of our work here. http://www.vimeo.com/10809028

My name's Matt Gunn and I'm looking for experienced earthbag builders to help supervise the construction of our first building for an orphanage in Leogane, Haiti. We will be starting with two simple, 1,200 sq. foot vertical wall structures.  We hope to begin around the first week of August.  We will provide experienced earthbag builders with safe transportation to and from the airport, a safe place to stay, and all meals.  We will have all tools, materials and laborers on site and ready to go.  I'm on the ground here now if you have any questions.  My email is  mattAThaitianydc.org

I built two earthbag structures in Haiti in March of 2010. I have an idea of building a village, but I need land. I would like to build near PAP and I have found land near Cor De Boquet (? on Spelling) however it is very expensive. My wife and I speak Creole and every Haitian we spoke to is homeless. I feel like there is a great need in and around PAP. I would like to have around 10 acres to build on. Some of you may have contacts I do not have. I lived in Haiti for 3 1/2 years and not living there now make it difficult to find what I am looking for. If you can help or have contatcts that could help please let me know. 22 year military officer with experience in logistics and planning will be traveling to Haiti this summer to make arrangements to build earthbag houses. Self funded. Looking for connections on the ground in Haiti.  I've been researching this web site for opportunities to go to Haiti and build earthbag shelters: http://www.volunteerabroad.com/Haiti.cfm . There are several different programs and there are fees involved and I don't have all the details yet; there seem to be varying amounts. And they talk about fundraising opportunities, etc. I've got some cash and I am going. Probably in early July. I thought it might be cool if several of us earthbag types went together. Aybody interested in this?      Tim Merritt:     txmerrittATearthlink.net
